Alright everything worked fine, I installed the drivers for my sound card and then a few days later installed all of the drivers for my mobo.

Well apparently when I installed the mobo sound drivers, they took control of the machine and not allowing the sound card to work.

Now I put the sound card driver cd back in and tried updating it to get the system back on track, but no dice.

How do I fix this?

This is in windows XP Pro

thanks.

Is the sound mounted to the motherboard or is it one of those high-speed PCI dealies w/ MIDI and all that?

If you right-click on 'My Computer' icon, select properties option, select 'Hardware' tab (I think) and access the Device Manager does it show an exclamation point next to the sound card indicating that the wrong driver is being used? Or is it recognized, drivers installed properly, and it just plain old don't work?

No this is a separate sound card plugged into a regular pci slot. No midi or anything, just a 7.1

it worked fine until I installed the sound driver on my mobo.

How can I disable the sound card on the mobo and make it recongnize the actual card?
