ooobuntooo, this one is a new release. I was wondering what this version is like. I have to give the developer's credit for not giving up. These guys want Linux desktops in stores!

This is awesome.
I'll have to try it out when (if at this point) I get my Grandpa's old Dell, assuming it isn't too hardware intensive.

Oh, note to the gOS devs:
Please stick with one OS paradigm for future releases.
Thank you.

EDIT: Ok guys, fsck Everex.
Sylvania Computers will from now on pwn them with the latest stable gOS, and Ubuntu NetBook remix.
I guess Everex will be putting the latest gOS on the gPC and the MyMinigPC (the MySpace edition actually), and I don't give a crap about the Cloudbook anymore, but the gBook was nice.

I haven't found any reviews of gOS 3 yet, but previous versions have had good reviews:

I can't wait for the Sylvania G Netbook to come with gOS 3!
It'll be 320$ on TigerDirect, and made of pure awesome.

I was just able to download and play with gOS 3 Beta tonight and I must say this is one fine release. Very close to Ubuntu 8.04.1 with the gOS look and feel. Google gadgets load automatically and there are a few launched with many more available. The dock at the bottom is responsive and not bloated like in previous releases. The applications are standard Ubuntu fare with Wine 1.0 and Picasa thrown in for good measure.

The release seems stable and all applications launched properly, just as Ubuntu 8.04.1 does for me.

I ran the live cd on my aging Dell Dimension 2400, Celeron 2.4ghz, 1gb ram, wired ethernet machine and it was quick and responsive.

About the only thing missing is Java, and I assume libdvdcss is absent but I didn't test dvds. Flash, mplayer, and a few other codecs are already installed. Overall, a very nice release.

From the screenies, it looks like their using wbar, which is made of pure awesome too.

Just tried with vbox a moment ago, and I'm impressed. The loading must be very fast, because I may have blinked, and there it was a nice DE in front of me. Usually, ubuntu live cd's have problems/ take long time to load in vbox for me.

This is an indication that it is definitely not using GNOME.

It uses a mix of gnome and LXDE i think.

Apologies in advance if this is a bit of a newbie question.
gOS 3 is based on Ubuntu, therefore is it possible to tweak my current Ubuntu install to match gOS using synaptic?
Probably not I'm guessing.

You'd have to go a bit farther than synaptic, but yes.

Hey, everyone. I was wondering if the Ubuntu community was aware of gOS. It's actually pretty cool. I thought gOS Space could have done a bit better, but the gOS 3 Beta is looking really good.

LossLess Records partnered with gOS as a mirror to help support their efforts and the overall Open Source community. You'll find us on the mirror page for gOS that was posted earlier in this thread. I'd post our direct link here, but I don't know if that would violate forum rules.

Anyways, any feedback on gOS that you leave in their online group will definitely get read by the decision makers and developers at the company. So, if you have questions or requests, you can check that out at:

How long do you think it'll stay Beta?

this is probably the best release so far. i didnt care at all for the first 2. although still not my cup of tea, i think it's better.

one minor nit-pick: does anyone else think the initial Gos screen (with the progress bar) looks like a second grader designed it? very amatuer-ish.

The release is slated for next month, provided there are no major snafus. I think they're calling it beta expecting to find some bugs, but really, it's a borderline beta 3 / RC0 level release.

I'll give you this, it's no Windows 95. :P

It's not so bad, but as with many things in the Open Source world, the aesthetics could probably be a bit better.

The Meso got a pretty bad review (2.5/5).
Mostly due to the actual size and shape of the thing (it's really ugly). Supposedly Ubuntu Netbook Remix is great, this is coming from laptopmag.com.

It'll be interesting to see who picks up gOS 3 once it's been out for a while. I think it'll pick up some traction. It is a pretty slick OS and I could see its place on a system like the EEE PC.

The cramped keyboard sounds bad. I couldn't care less about the looks.

I personally have no problem typing on cramped keyboards.
Must have to do with my extreme use of my iPod Touch...
