Is there any application that is better for wireless internet connections than the default Network Manager? Mine isn't working very well and I wanted to see if another worked better.

Try Wicd. Google it & let it install. I always had trouble with network manager & wi-fi. It uninstalls network manager so if you decide to return you will need to re-install from apt.

Follow the instructions here : http://wicd.sourceforge.net/download.php

Well, I tried downloading and installing it and nothing worked at all. I had no internet and no way to get it back because you have to DOWNLOAD the network manager. Thanks anyway guys... I'll just keep my ethernet cord running across the hallway to the living room lol...

Try Wifi-Radar.

It works for me :)
And if it does.
Remove network Manager or otherwise Firefox will start in 'Offline Mode'. Very annoying.

Wifi-Radar is in the Repos.

Wicd helped me out in Feisty, when it picked up and connected to my wireless network, where Network Manager didn't.

It always worked good for me.

Make sure you have the Ubuntu cd with you, should you have trouble with wicd, you use the cd to reinstall network manager.

Perhaps it would help if you described your problem ...

Is it a hardware issue, is you wireless card recognized, do you need ndiswrapper, what was the problem with network manager, what was the problem with wicd ???

I basically ended up reinstalling Xubuntu anyway... It is not a hardware problem, the thing just never works on Xubuntu. Back when I had Windose it worked 100% of the time. Now it might work every 4 or 5 attempts. I know the device works, I think it just needs different software. (Wicd didnt work...)

I don't think wifi-radar works in Xubuntu. Any programs that will work in Xfce?

You might get some help if you provide the info that bodhi.zazen requested. Otherwise...

Well... it didnt work after 2 reboots, but when I booted up this morning, everything was fine. I have no idea what happened, but I quickly uninstalled GIMP anyway. (Windose sucks but I love Paint.net) Ill just use that somehow hehe.
