ifdown ifup

Hi everyone. When I connect my Ubuntu machine to my home network I have to enter an ifdown and an ifup command prior to getting the ability to view the webpage I created on my Ubuntu box from the Windows XP machine on the same network. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

can we see the output of ifconfigbefore AND after you run ifdown/ifup.
