I was interested in buying an Asus EEE a little while back but have been saving money for tuition. The 4g seems perfect, but I was wondering if it's possible to get the 2g and make a bootable USB stick with DSL or some other small linux distro?

I'd like to be able to install some packages and be able to code projects for school and I don't think the 2G can handle this alone. How possible is it to just get a big USB drive and run entirely off of that... or is that not possible at all? I'm not too familiar with the process.

as you can see in my sig, i have the eeepc running debian on the 2G Surf. it's probably the best os i could find for such a limited drive. wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC is the link for it. it is a net install of debian lenny. i opted for a minimal install of xfce4, and only selected *standard* and *laptop* when asked what i wanted to install. if you try to install "desktop environment", also, it won't fit on the drive. so a minimal install is pretty much mandatory. read the wiki before installing. it runs incredibly perfect for me. PM me if you decide to do it, and i'll help you get the wifi going. pretty easy once you know how to do it.
