I'd vote it to be the best Microsoft operating system.

Well, if you wanna get all technical about it, Windows Vista is still just MSDOS... I mean, look at their *cough* "Configuration" folders... They never got rid of it, and people still run DOS. Thus proving that DOS will survive forever being the greatest OS of all time :P

I made a bootable FreeDOS CD with 11 freeware games on it. I even have DOS in dual-boot with Linux.

Yeah me too. It's great for playing Dungeon Crawl when I don't want to wait 30 seconds for Linux to boot up :D
As for the CD, I'm making one for a few DOS games/apps. I'll include Dungeon Crawl, nethack, DOOM, Tetris, testdisk, photorec, and maybe a few others. I've already made some CD's from FreeDOS floppies, but there isn't much you can do with 1.44
I'd vote it to be the best Microsoft operating system.
Yes, I'd have to agree with that
Best operating system or bestest operating system?
Correction: FreeDOS is the best operating system

MSDos was one of my first operating systems, used it all the time on my old school computers.
Actually I have some fond memories of that era, Carmen Sandiego, Wheel of fortune, word munchers...
All were great, except for Oregon trail, I died of dysentery every bloody time.

Best operating system or bestest operating system?
Back in the day, PC-DOS was much better than MS-DOS (especially in memory management), but OS/2 was the "bestest."

DOS in general was a good OS. It was solid, as long as the app running on it was well written too.
DOS itself never crashed on me, only the app running on DOS crashed which brought down the whole system.
Now the FreeDOS project is great because it gives DOS a new lease on life with support for newer technologies.

Wasn't MSDOS gone when the NT kernel was introduced? Anything we see now is just a ghost of it. CMD isn't even DOS anymore.

Aha, but 32-bit Windows can still run DOS apps. When we get to 64-bit systems, then it's gone.

Yeah that's when MS officially dropped support for it. But even in Vista, there's an option to make a MS-DOS boot floppy.

It's actually not that bad compared to windows after Win98.

Yeah, certainly a lot faster. I'd like to see Vista boot in 5 seconds ;)
