Hi everyone, I just discovered that there are many pinoy users here and so, maybe we can have our own introduction on where we live. For those that are not Pinoy, it's no problem. :D Introduce your hometown! :D
I'm from Cebu City! I'm having my studies here. Originally, I was born in Binondo, Manila. We moved to Bacolod City in Negros Occidental and I had my Elementary and High School Days there. :D

A lot of people in the development team have post-graduate degrees or are currently taking one. Maybe that should give you a wake up call that school still matters most.
If there comes a time that you have no access to a computer. The other skills you learn in school will be useful.

i dont know how it works in wherever you live, but where im from, if you dont finish college you most likely are not going to be working any good jobs. i know that was a a generalization, but completing your college education is incredibly important if you want to begin a solid career, ESPECIALLY in computing. so far ive worked at four different companies (3 while in college, just started one after i graduated) and not one of those companies would even consider hiring someone who hasnt graduated college.
i know people at several different companies that are considered "hiring managers," meaning they pick who comes into their deparments or groups. none of those managers would interview a non-college educated person. my father is one, and he doesnt even read resumes/CVs of people that dont have a college degree listed on there.
i encourage everyone to do what they want to do with thier life, its yours. if you want to get a college education, i urge you to pursue it and put everything you have into it. it is incredibly valuable.

Anyway, ubuntu-ph.org and #ubuntu are the official website and channel of the Ubuntu Philippines LoCo (Local Community), so it would be good if you could sign up and drop by once in a while, to be counted and be heard.

I think it was a one-time event only. Actually the FOSS Fiesta was just a small part of a 2-day conference entitled "1st Philippine Conference on Free and Open Source Software in eGovernance." Don't know if there will be another such conference. Pero kung Linux users naman hanap mo, I think PLUG (Philippine Linux Users Group, ganda ng pangalan no?) regularly holds some conferences of some sort. I'm not really sure coz I'm not a member.

I'm from Kalibo, Aklan
I started using Linux since 2004 using Suse 9.0 then I tried Red Hat 8.0, Fedora Core 3,4,5,6, Mandriva, Slackware, Linspire, Debian, and finally I settled on CentOS and Ubuntu.
I would recommend Ubuntu for Desktop and CentOS for server.

Got my first Ubuntu from the mail (Ubuntu 6.01) years back. Am sticking to Ubuntu, mas madaling gamiting. At least medyo nagagamit ko yung training ko sa Red Hat kahit konti....hehehehe...:)
