OK,...aside from Ubuntu,..I've been trying PClinuxOS 2007. Can't seem to get on their forum. They sent me an email,....with the "click-thru" thing,..something with a "u=(and a number)" and "code=(and a number)"......but I can't seem to log on with them, no matter what combo I try. What gives? It keeps asking me if I need my "activation code" resent. No,...just need to know what to do with what they sent????????????
Anyone have experience with getting on their forum? (thanks for any help)...

I never had any issues like this, but to be honest those forums suck.
The PClinux forums are full of power hungry mods who close off topics saying one bad thing about that distro, very sad too as PClinux is a great distro but when the community is hostile and unfriendly then its not worth having.

Well,..actually,..I DID notice that the forum wasn't all that friendly,...that's why I like the Ubuntu forums,...(and even the little friendly "Puppy Linux" forum),...
It's a good reason why Ubuntu is so popular (the support and friendliness of the forums).
I like PClinuxOS,..but to be honest,...I'd just as soon go with Ubuntu only. The only problem,..is that I have TWO dial-up internet accounts,...and Ubuntu only seems to let me use one of them (can't seem to set up both,..only one).

Thanks for your input,..appreciate it!:)

PCLOS allows you to have two internet accounts? Is it the difference in KDE and Gnome?

I can always use two dialup accounts in KDE,...but not in Gnome,...Puppy Linux uses it's own version of WVdial,..so I can use two in it, also.
Wish I could in Ubuntu's Gnome. (Kubuntu's browsers wouldn't seem to work for me, though). PC-Bsd's KDE desktop also let me use two dialups. (actually,..I can also seem to use Juno's free 10hr a month service in KDE,....)

I think you could have two dialup accounts by using Gnome-ppp. If nothing else you could make a copy of the shortcut and stick in your second dialup account info there.

Not sure if I would know how to set up two dialup accounts in Gnome,...but I'll try.
Solved my problem with the PClinuxOS forum thing,...
I simply got rid of PClinuxOS,...and re-installed Ubuntu!!!!!!
It's still just Gutsy Gibbons (7.10)...but I should be getting the new one in the mail soon (can't do downloading with a little dialup):)
I like Ubuntu better than other distros anyhow (and the forum is MUCH more friendlier than others)!
Thanks for the tip about two dialups in Gnome,...I'll see what I can do,...

EDIT:...Just did it!!!! Yeeah! I downloaded the "Gnome PPP" dialer from synaptic,..and put one of my dialup accounts on it,...while the dialup dialer that came with Ubuntu's install has my other one. Neat! I really like Ubuntu (works for me).

PClinux is a great distro but when the community is hostile and unfriendly then its not worth having.

It is not that bad. Sure, there are some unusual characters there, but I find the vast majority very friendly and helpful. Secondly, the distro is so easy you hardly need a forum at all.

I'm also quite fond of PCLOS. I did some testing with it for video capturing, and I had absolutely no issues with it. In fact, I was planning on moving to it if Hardy Heron proved to be as unstable as Gutsy Gibbon.

For solving problems, I noticed that there isn't a whole lot of support for it, so I just started doing searches for solving Mandriva problems, since PCLOS is based on it. Through this means, I was able to piece enough information together to get my answers.

When PCLOS 2007 came out I ran it longer than I have any other distro. It was the best distro (in my opinion, anyway) at that time. Now it's old but the PCLOS devs are working on an update. It's taking forever. I like up to date so I jumped ship.

If/when the new version comes out I will definitely try it. I'm not much of a KDE guy anymore, though. I tried their Gnome version. I didn't care for it.

On the forums....definitely not as user friendly as this one but it wouldn't stop me from using the distro. Ubuntu's community is a huge plus in their favor.

Glad you got your problem worked out, nitehawk777. :)

What? Old? Needs an update? It is a rolling relase! The software in PCLinuxOS is as new as in Hardy - in some cases even newer. However it still uses KDE 3.5.9, and not KDE 4.0 - but that`s hardly a drawback. They hold back KDE 4 until it is good, stable and ready.

There is a version made in 2008 called MiniMe, but it is basically a stripped down and updated version of PCLinuxOS 2007. If you have an updated version of PCLinuxOS 2007, you are basically running the same OS as MiniMe.

I have their Gnome version running on a laptop, and I am very happy with it. Upgrades to the newest software without any issues.

Actually,...I was still going to use PClinuxOS on another hard drive I have,....(I still can't get on their forum, though). I just upgraded my Ubuntu from 7.10 to Hardy today,...so I want to keep that, also. I'll "tinker" with both,...since I've only been into linux (and tried PC-Bsd) for only about 6 or 7 months now. (Had win98se & win2k for waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many years!).......
Linux is the way to go,........:guitar:(Linux rocks!)

I totally agree. They have ruined the community they once had. It is a sad and desperate place these days (not to mention the distro is loooooooong in the tooth to say the least....).

I'd have to concur with what Sunny is saying...great Distro, dreadful forum.
