When I had KDE (dislike that :S) I had Ark, but it doesn't fit in GNOME and seems to dislike it as well...
So what is a good GNOME archiver I can possibly find in mandriva's repos? I can't find any

No matter what WM/DE I've used, xarchiver is my archiver of choice. I've never had the problems I have with the Ark or File Roller. Just my two cents, and my experience. Good luck.

Thank you guys for your kind words on Xarchiver. I'm about to release the 0.5 with a L O T of improvements but I need your help. Would you like to test it? The current svn code is available on svn xfce server:
$ svn co http://svn.xfce.org/svn/xfce/xarchiver/trunk xarchiver
To compile you need xfce-dev-tools. Please help me to release Xarchiver 0.5 as soon as possible thank you,

Thank you. I just released the 0.5.0 yesterday with a LOT of improvements and today a bugfix release with support to LZOP.

Bye,
Good to hear. I'll test it out on my Arch partition soon, then maybe use it on my Slackware workhorse.
