Hello y'all,
I'm trying to run apt-get update and this is what I'm getting.... I've had all sorts of trouble getting it to work for me. Thanks. I've researched all over and can't find my answer and least I don't seem to see it. -Greg

wow,
I think i've really screwed up...i'm not sure what to do, i've honestly been searching. I did what the last thing was said, as far as trying to update but that was after I took some other advice and tried to fix my proxy and I think screwed it up more. How can I get the right proxy in there? I don't even know what that means completely....hmmm. Thanks. -Greg

If you are running behind a proxy server..likely at work...you need to specify the proxy server. In Synaptic go to Settings-->Preferences-->Network and select 'Manual proxy configuration'. Enter the IP address of the proxy server and hit OK.

Hit Reload and cross your fingers. ;)

I'm not at work, but someone suggested I try some command about proxy server and I think I may have used their generic post without specifying? I'm not sure.
Anyway, what would be my proxy that I would put in the settings of synaptic?
64-4-119-177
do i need something else like a :8080
or something like that.
ALso, if I add that to synaptic will it automatically affect the apt-get? THanks. -Greg

Here's what synaptic said when I opened it. This was after and I believe before I went into the preferences and changed my proxy. I just guessed. I tried 64-4-119-177 and it already had 3128 in the port setting. -Greg

Are you actually behind a proxy server or did you just somehow tell apt that you were and now it doesn't work?

My installs of both Hoary and Breezy worked by default without specifying any network settings at all.

If you aren't using a prozy server set the Network connection to direct connection.

As my sig suggests....I'm still a newb so that's about all i can tell you. :(

That makes sense, I don't know? I will try to revert back to the direct connect which it was at, but then I went into terminal mode and I think I made it believe i was behind proxy. I'm newbie too, but learning. -Greg

Your sources.list looks okay. I don't know anything about this proxy server business. You may want to try commenting out the CD source, though. I'm not sure, but it may conflict with the internet sources. A "comment" is just a # sign in front of the line.
