Determining IP Address

Hello:

I just got my laptop with Ubuntu LTS 8.04 installed.

I need to install Oracle on the laptop and one of the steps requires me to enter the IP address for my host.

How do I go about finding what my IP address is on my machine?

ifconfig

run from terminal displays the comps local network address. If you
need to know the current external address, try;

http://www.ipchicken.com
