It has been reported that laptops containing Nvidia G84 & G86 chips (encompassing 8600M GT) have been found to have a high rate of failure due to the material used for chip packaging. The problem seems to affect all chips manufactured and isn't limited to a specific batch.

Since some of system76's systems include gpus affected by this issue, I thought I would bring it up as a possible issue.

We haven't seen any failures with them yet. But thanks for the heads-up.

What System76 systems had or have the Nvidia G84 or G86? I don't have my laptop booted-up, so just curious if the PanP5 falls into this.

Well, the model of MacBook Pro I have falls into this category too, but I never had a problem with it, and haven't really heard of the issue before.

I don't think so. My PanP5 has a G105M. This looks to be somewhat old.

I think this tracks back all the way to the Pangolin Value days. You know, when we used all used to walk uphill both ways to school with no shoes on. I have a PanV3, it has the 8600 GT. It was an upgrade.

No failures. And I STRESS this thing out (work stuff, no games).
