Hi, my laptop is an Acer Aspire 5570 Z series. From the vendor, it had 512mb of ram. I just recently got it upgraded to 1.5gb by adding a 1gb memory module.
During my search for the memory upgrade, some vendors informed me that Kingston memory modules are not recommended for Acer laptops. It seems that Acer distributed a memo stating that the warranty of the laptop would be void if a Kingston module was used on an Acer laptop. Most vendors recommended I use an Apacer memory module, others recommended any other brand but Kingston.
This was pretty inconvenient as Kingston memory modules are more common here where I live (Cebu, Philippines). Fortunately, I did find an Apacer memory module at a comparable price so no real harm done.
The thing that concerns me is that, once I got home, I searched about the problem and I found one result regarding this matter (lost the link). It seemed that the Kingston memory module broke the Acer laptop's motherboard.
So I'm posting this here for those who want to upgrade their Acer laptop's memory. I don't really know how bad the problem is and it might just be in isolated cases where these things happen. Still, better safe than sorry. I'd also like to know how true this thing is.
Anybody know more about this?
