I have officially installed OpenSuSE 11 KDE 3.5.9 over my Ubuntu installation after hearing a bunch about it. I have been using it for 3 days, and I must say, I have a new love. I love the fact that flash comes pre-installed. Very easy to install, detected all my hardware besides my wireless...took just a simple 1 line command to install the B43 driver, and to top it all off, it looks really nice. I'll still hang out around here and will be testing all the future live cd's of Ubuntu because I can't forget my roots. It's been a great 2 years, and thanks to the community for being soo nice and helping me learn.

Yeah I do the same thing, I used Ubu exclusively since Breezy (5.04), but switched to openSUSE last Christmas.

I still like to poke my nose into the ubuntu forum though, I help if I can, have a laugh, and generally annoy people.

I also try their releases, and even "want" them to tempt me, but they haven't do far.

They never quite make it, especially now that I've become adept with zypper and it is now as good as apt.

It's the cohesive feeling that openSUSE gives me, it honestly makes Ubuntu look like it was slapped together.

Oh well, maybe one day they will surprise me :).

That's an optical illusion caused from the default theme used in Ubuntu, I used to think the same thing. Heck, posted in another thread saying I was a hypocrite because I use Ubuntu GNOME but yet use the Guillouche theme (SuSE's Gnome default theme) along w/ the Unofficial Tango icon pack (similar to SuSE's default gnome icons)...

No, it's simple things like a nice graphical boot loader by default, a nice backdrop to the VTs, additional things in openoffice, no updates that bork my system, a lot of apps have SUSE themeing built in, and having a great grub recovery tool on the DVD.

Things like that make a distro look and feel good, and also instill confidence in the user.

I agree that SUSE is a lot more attractive than Ubuntu...While i still love Ubuntu, I think they really need to work on the artwork more. SUSE looks amazing and still works pretty good on my laptop. One thing that is big for me in SUSE is the driver for my onboard Intel 855gm graphics card. For some reason the driver works a ton better in SUSE. The desktop effects are smoother, and also when scrolling in firefox, it is extremely smooth (like it was in XP). Also it won't let me install system updates unless plugged in to the charger. Makes me feel like it is well built, b/c a couple of times installing updates in ubuntu, my power would drop terribly. Speaking of power, my battery life is better in SUSE as well. Guess its just the little things that make me want to change. The only thing i didn't like about SUSE was having to find out how to enable my wireless...in Ubuntu it recognized it and downloaded the driver from the net....Althought it was a quick one line command to download and install the B43 driver in SUSE...
