Cedega will run Age of Empires I and II, III hasnt been test run yet, that Im aware of. I should pick up a copy tonight and start fiddling.

I think alternate to that, DirectXWine will run AOE II.

Am I right in believing AOE is actually a Microsoft game?
Maybe Bill Gates will compile a Linux version for us?

From what I've heard AoE3 can't compare to Civ 4

You don't need to install DirectX9 when you use WINE or Cedega.

Comparing AoE to Civ4 is like comparing apples to oranges... One is a real-time strategy and the other is a turn-based strategy.

That being said, I have read that Civ4 is much more enjoyable than Civ3 and AoE3 is prettier than AoE2, but less enjoyable.

AOE3 is like a mix of games

you take the worst parts from two games and you get one REALY crappy game

civ 4 is better, but after playing freeciv its a bit to complex for my tastes

I just started and played a bit today Age of Empire II Conqueror expansion with the cedega 4.4.3, and it worked damn well, like under Windows (I had long time before).

Great thing Linux, isnt it ? ya'

IIRC, the audio, and graphics of AoE 1&2 are under Microsoft's pseudo open source license, meaning development using those materials for a non-profit cause is allowed. Am I correct?
