So Ubuntu 8.04's sound mess (with ALSA, OSS and PulseAudio all together) has really gotten on my nerves with less functionality with time that reminds one of Windows. I followed instructions online to get Flash audio working along with Rhythmbox (ALSA) etc and then followed instructions to fully install PulseAudio.. which I then tried uninstalling because Skype wouldn't work any more etc.

Bottom line: I have a messed up sound config. Is it possible to reset or uninstall all sound drivers and start again without reinstalling Ubuntu? Can I take it back to the original config. somehow?

My main problem right now is that the speakers constantly blare out all sounds picked up by the microphone. Any fix for that?
