Hello,
This is about Ubuntu 8.04 on a desktop with a Realtek ALC882 chipset. Using the System -> Pref -> Sound program, I can fiddle around with several options for audio playback and capture : ALSA, OSS, ALC882 and Pulseaudio.
What exactly are these? Drivers?? Why so many options? This is a problem with every install of Ubuntu on different hardware I've done..
the current problem is that none of the drivers work for the microphone. However, anything captured by the mic is instantly played by the speakers. But Sound Recorder captures silence and so does Skype.. What could the problem be? (Obviously I've tried increasing all volumes in alsamixer and gnome-volume-control )
Further why so many drivers?? Why not just stick with one that works?
