music mixer/editor

does anyone know a good music mixer/editor and where you can get loops and sounds to do some serious remixing and creation of new track's hopefully free, and one compatible with Ubuntu7.10

Well, Audacity is de facto the default Linux sound editor, althought there exists others. I find quite good for me.

But if you are interested in producing music, consider UbuntuStudio (http://ubuntustudio.org/). Its a distro based on ubuntu focused on multimedia producers. But you don't need to reinstall your OS to use the packages. they are all available in Ubuntu too.
