My brother owns a HTC Touch Cruise phone which is also a PDA with windows mobile installed....
Windows mobile is crap though... looks ugly and pretty cluttered... then I saw the new ubuntu MID thingie which looks like a portable OS.
Is it something he can install on his PDA phone instead of windows mobile?

Sorry, but you can't install Ubuntu MID. Ubuntu MID is a full Linux OS with a UI designed for UMPCs, and it needs 512mb of RAM or more like regular Ubuntu.

MID's are somewhat more powerful than PDA's that wm runs on... more screen size too. I doubt it would work nice.

plus..i am sure that since MID was not designed to replace Phone Os...chances are that even the OS might word, the Phone aspect i.e making calling over the GSM/CDMA network might be lost as MID was never intended for that.

You're thinking NetBook remix, not the MID one.
You can go ahead and try it, but Android (whenever the hell it's ready) would be a better choice.

No I am thinking of the MID one, designed for things like the Q1 Ultra.

And Q1 Ultra is an MID, not an UMPC.
A UMPC is a small laptop. They fold and have a more or less normal keyboard.

I think Android is a better choice then, but I'm disappointed that Ubuntu MID requires 512MB RAM.

Surely it doesn't. Regular Ubuntu requires less than that, and neither MID nor Netbook runs the full Gnome.

The MID edition page says it does.

Since when is "recommended" "required"?
2GB to 8GB Flash or disk storage, 256MB+ memory/512MB+ recommended

Recommended = required in order to run well.
