I voted for wormux because I like that game although I never played hedgewars, does hedgewars have a single player mode?

My god there is another person on these forums that has played hedgewars

Without a doubt hedgewars, it was hedgewars 6 months ago before the massive update, wormux just doesn't feel right.

Yes hedgewars has a single player and it's great the AI is spot on.

PS check my sig I'm a believer have been since January when I found it quite by accident.

you can get a single mode on latter versions of wormux apparently never managed it myself though, hedgewars does have single mode though it's one main advantage really.

Well, I played them both. And I honestly can say that HW (aka Hedgewars) is way too better than WX(aka Wormux). Hereīs a small list of comparing these two Worms-clones:

1.Graphics - in HW are flawless. When you look at the screen you canīt see something that looks it doesnīt belong there. The hedgehogs are very cute with great animation, funny voices and ability to modify each and every one of them with a hat (something like a mask that the small guy wears during the game). Backgrounds are also unique. They are not Worms-style but non the less feel great. About the animation in action scenes - awesome. Hedgehogs fly and roll in pain all over tha map. All the weapons look cool too. In WX - nothing like that...The guys you play with look dull, kind of stiff. And they definitely donīt fit with the background. Weapons - some are nice, but they also stay unnatural in the hands of the little cows, chickens and whatever farm animals you have in your team.

2.Interface - in HW menus are not such an eye-candy, but that's no big deal since you spend there 1/1000000 of your time. :) About the in-game interface - just like Worms that is - great, fully functional and doesn't take half of your screen. In WX it's the opposite. Main menu looks great really, but as I said - you spend 1/100000 of your time there. In-game interface - sad story. Ok, I understand they wanted to make it different from Worms but i)when something is 100% cool, functional etc. and you're making a clone of that game, you are allowed to take it and ii)there are so many things that you don't need. Take the map for example. What do you need that for? Answer: you don't need it at all. After all it's not that your screen is 9" and the resolution of the game is 5000x4000 or something and doesn't fit in the screen so you have to scroll all over the place.

3.Weapons - both clones have a "+" here. HW has less weapons but some of them unique. WX has so many weapons like in Worms. That's also cool.

4.Single player - HW beats WX with 100:1 here.
5.Multiplayer - both have same cool multi.

Well that's of course only my humble opinion. Try them both and then judge for yourselves.

Unrelated genre. Real-time cutesy 2d multiplayer action shooter does not equate to turn-based cutesy 2d terrain destruction tactical strategy. Same with blending 'liero' and its clones in the Worms clone territory, only for the involvement of the protagonists by default being worms :/

My vote is on HedgeWars as it knows it's developing a game, and not an artpack. Unfortunately it does rip off GoGoRiki for its characters, so that kinda makes it non-Free too =(

Last time I tried Hedgewars it completely crapped out on me. It was glitching so much that it wasn't even remotely playable.

Downloading it now to try it out.

EDIT: This version actually works. However, it's lagging way too much.

There are a few possible reasons for that: 1) In Jaunty, it seems Qt 4.5 + SDL + Pulseaudio = 100% of CPU taken up to play music in frontend - solutions appear to be to either: sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio or turn off music in preferences and restart. This also, BTW, can impact game locking up requiring restarting pulseaudio. 2) The animated stars in frontend could be slow on your system. That would be the preference Frontend Effects 3) Your system could be just slow, period. Try the Reduced Quality option to turn off a number of graphics not crucial to gameplay.

Wormux did not impress me, but I need to test them both.

I wrote a Free Gamer article on open source worms clones (http://freegamer.blogspot.com/2009/03/open-source-artillery-worms-clones.html) several months ago.
