hi guys i have been using the program "free download manager" in windows for a very long time and i missed it very much in linux,

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/

now from their site i learned that the have licensed the source under GNU thereby making it open source, i don't know if there any official linux version is available, i searched it for no avail.if someone can port it to linux that could be great coz it has lot of features including bittorrent support.......................

I've also been searching for "good" download managers, but I gave up. I haven't found any that would be as feature full and reliable like say flashget or download master. Aria download manager for Linux looks like frankenstein haha

Kget and wget are good in my mind.

Aria download manager for Linux looks like frankenstein haha
It doesn't look bad :p
@bijeeshvs:It seems like its only Windows compatible. It's open source and released under thr GNU Public License.(Doesn't mean it works on Linux). It's written in C++,and I think that they are using Windows Libraries for the GUI.I haven't downloaded the source code(yet),so I might be wrong.
And as for a BT,have you used Transmission? It's pretty good in my mind, haven't used a better one.
Quoting a post from their site.

have you tried downthemall (http://www.downthemall.net/)? it's an firefox extension (so usable on all os' where firefox is available) and looks pretty nice... has the standard functions to download all files (with filter by ext or regex :D ), including renaming and chunk downloading..

Sun Download Manager works well for me!

Very easy to install via Java web Start. (Requires Sun Java 5 or 6)

the downthemall plugin is great for quick downloads from within firefox. for more complex stuff i always use wget (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wget). oh, and for torrents there is rtorrent (http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/) ;)
