I'm downloading nVidia Display driver for Linux x86-64 1.0-7676
And i'm wondering will it work on Ubuntu 5.10 AMD64?

Right, if you don't have a 7800, use 7667.

I also use 7667, it was automatically installed with ubuntuguide on a fresh install of Ubuntu 5.10.

Some portion of ubuntuguide still works without changing anything like repositories.

I've had a huge swathe of problems with the nvdia driver in the past on this.

I've just done a completely clean install followed by and update and a restart.

After this I followed the guide you used and restarted X, well... shut down X - to restart it does have to start again.

As usual same old story - the x server could not be started.

No matter how I install the Nvidia drivers I just cannot get the damn things to work.

I think I'm just destined to be stuck in 2d using the NV drivers for the rest of my days.

My graphs card is a Geforce 5200 128mb.
