After some reading on the forums i managed to get WoW to run but i am getting slow framerates thought it should run smoothly. I just installed the 8.04 ubuntu and installed drivers with Envy i also installed wine. I managed to get it runing by adding SET gxApi "opengl" in the config file and now it runs but with a not so good framerate it's playable but not runing smoothly. Also i have a 8500GT with AMD Athol 64 x2 2.1ghz 1.5gig ram. Is it posible to improve framerate?

Are you running Compiz with all the eye-candy? I don't run it and have only modded my wtf file to use OpenGL and get consistently high fps at around 70-80fps all the time.

You may have to disable a few in-game effects as well of that doesn't work.

I also have the game's video settings to everything maxxed out.

I am running an E8200, 2G of 1066MHz DDR2, 9600GT 512mb.

Try some of the in-game video settings and reduce the level of detail etc.

Did you also do the registry fix found on the Community page?

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WorldofWarcraft

The other option is to run it in D3D mode and see if thats any better, sometimes it works.

Thanks fixing wine helped. One more question will WoW run better on ubuntu then on windows on old machine?

I found after the initial mucking around with Wine, WoW runs really well under Ubuntu, I even get better fps :) I have another box here running it under Vista, runs well there but the fps doesn't seem to peak more than 50-60fps, thanks to all the extra services! Same when I ran it under XP.

Updates all work just fine as well as all my addons :)
