I was just wondering if anybody had used Syllable (http://web.syllable.org/pages/index.html) OS, or knew anything about it. It says that it has it's own kernel.

An operating system is the basic software that makes a computer do things.

That looks pretty interesting, actually. But it sadly isn't mature enough for consistent computing yet.

I tried it last year. It was extremely fast, but it wouldn't login after a few boots. It looks like a very promising project, so I hope that it will become a stable and functional desktop some day.

I agree, it's a promising project, and I like to keep track of its progress. It does indeed have its own kernel, filesystems and mostly its own userspace. Some parts of Unix systems (like CUPS and GRUB) have made it into Syllable.

Unfortunately, on the computer I used to own, Syllable's desktop services kept crashing as though it was Windows 95 with Netscape running :-) And Syllable won't boot on my flashy new monster. Sad. But it seems to be a nice little system.
