Eboard and Phalanx not compatible?

Is there a way to use the Phalanx chess engine with Eboard? I can't seem to figure it out.

I tried using Peer>PlayAgainstEngine>GenericEngine, then in the Engine Command tab I add "phalanx" in the "engine command line". But Eboard gives me an error, "incompatable Engine Protocal."

Is Phalanx incompatible or am I way off on how to use a non-included engine? Eboard manuals I've found are surprisingly sparse.
