Following is an email I received from Jeremy White of Codeweavers, today:

Hi Folks,

I am happy to announce that we have now released version 7.1.0
of CrossOver Games, for both the Mac and for Linux.

This new version is largely an incremental improvement; it fixes
a range of bugs in a number of games. It also includes a full merge
with the Wine 1.0 code base, so this is now a 'post Wine 1.0'
version of CrossOver Games.

A full change log is included, below.

If you are an existing CrossOver customer with an active support entitlement,
you can visit our web site to download this latest version:
www.codeweavers.com
You will need to log in with the email and password that you used when
purchasing CrossOver. Please write to info@codeweavers.com if you need
help with this process.

Also I want to remind folks that with CrossOver Games, we're
really trying do much more rapid releases. So, although we've
tested this carefully and feel pretty good about it, if you have
a working configuration, you might just want to skip this one.
Or at the very least, archive your bottles before you upgrade.

On the other hand, if you really like the bleeding edge releases,
you might want to recall that we also make even more bleeding edge releases
available. That is discussed in more detail here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/announce/?;t=24;msg=32289
if you follow that all the way through to the unsupported builds forum,
you'll find that you can subscribe to that forum, and get a notice when
new bleeding edge builds are available.

At any rate, thanks for all of your support, and I hope you enjoy
gaming with CrossOver!

Cheers,

Jeremy

Honestly, it isn't much of an exciting changelog. I was kind of disappointed. =(

But isn't crossover based on previous versions of Wine?

But isn't crossover based on previous versions of Wine?

Here is more info' from the Codeweavers site:

Free Software

CodeWeavers supports the concept of Free Software, or as some prefer, Open Source Software.

CodeWeavers is the leading corporate backer of the Wine Project. Not only do we support and extend the Wine Project, we draw many of our employees from Wine's long time contributors, including the maintainer of Wine, Alexandre Julliard.

We believe that software applications that extend or augment a Free Software platform, without impeding the growth of that platform, provide an excellent business model for corporate growth.

Every single product and service we have ever offered has returned all of the changes and improvements made to Wine back to the Wine Project.

If Free Software succeeds, and the basic computing platforms become open and free, then the world will see an even more dramatic burst of exciting products and services that will touch all our lives.

Proprietary Software

At the same time, CodeWeavers believes that there is a place in the world for proprietary software.

We believe that proprietary software applications that extend or augment a Free Software platform, without in any way impeding the growth of that platform, provide an excellent business model for corporate growth.

As mentioned, we are committed to the success of the Wine Project. However, it is vital that a business be able to realize revenue for its work. We believe that the CrossOver product line provides that opportunity. By packaging Wine into an easy-to-use product (some of whose CrossOver components are proprietary) we provide the community with a method to easily use our contributions to Wine while providing us with the revenue we need to sustain our efforts.
