what did you install with synaptic? also are you sure you downloaded the files and didnt run, display, or whatever the other option might be? If you are sure you downloaded them check /home/USER/Desktop to see if theyre there

check your my documents folder for your downloads. You have to specify where you want them in the future through Firefox's options.

What 2 programs did you install, not all of them have menu icons built in, you might have to make your own. We can help just give us the names.

If the download appears in the firefox browser in the 'Downloads' window you can right click the specific download and click Open Containing folder. To open the download window go tools > Downloads(within Firefox) or CTRL + Y.

As far as programs go, if it isn't in the menu, you can go Applications > Add/Remove, and browse through until you find it, this shows every program you have installed,it should be there, providing it is installed properly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help, i got it figured out, i found the software and reinstalled it. I guess it did not complete it was not in add/remove software and now it is When i reinstalled it. As for Ubuntu 8.04 i did not save it to disk i downloaded it to the CD burning program. So guess it created a temp file maybe? and since i was not getting it to work right i just canceled it and maybe it just erased it.
