I wanted to know how can I make the lower and upper panels transparent in gnome? is there a way? even if that takes making the whole menus and all transparent but I would only like the panels to be. I DO NOT want it to look like Vista or anything like that at all, I just want to make the panels transparent, that's it...if anyone knows I'll appreciate it, thanks in advance.

Here goes...
Right click on a panel.
Select properties -> background -> solid color
Then select your colour and change the slider to make it more or less transparent according to your inclination.
