I have installed a Mythbuntu on a fresh, new machine yesterday. The specs:
ASUS P5KPL-AM, Intel C2D E4600, 2G RAM, 10moons TM300 TV-card, 750G Seagate HDD. I reckon that this machine is strong enough for watching some live TV and playing some DVDs...
After installing Mythbuntu and configuring the things as required, I have to say that almost everything worked straight out of the box. However, one problem I couldn't solve: I had to connect the DVB-C tuner through Composite signal with my TV card. The picture shows alright, but the sound loops every 3 seconds, adding up onto the ongoing sound. After a few seconds it's incredibly noisy and, of course, I can't understand anything anymore. What happens, is this: when I start the TV, the sound plays alright for three seconds. Then the normal sound goes on and the first three seconds go into an endless loop on top of the normal sound. After another three seconds, the last three seconds go into an endless loop on top of the already looping sequence plus the ongoing normal sound. After another three seconds, another loop adds on top of the two looping sounds and the normal sound. And so on and so on...
Since I have connected the sound of the TV card (Audio out) to the Line-In on my mainboard, I can verify that the TV-sound goes on normally when I switch the TV application off, i.e. back to the main menu for example. At this time, I can still hear the TV sound. That will be my next project: how can I convince MythTV to switch off Line-In when the TV application is ended?
Edit: I have tried to unplug the sound cable between the TV card and the Line-In of the mainboard. Of course, there was no sound anymore, but I could hear that the white noise was being looped now. After a few seconds there was such a loud white noise on my speakers that I was afraid they shoot around my ears soon... I guess it's some software setting in MythTV which doesn't work for me...
Where should I have a look at? What did I do wrong? Any hints? I couldn't find anything yesterday...
Thanks a lot for your help in advance!
