[SOLVED] desktop is locking up

When I try to go full screen in a video that I have on my computer, e.g. a avi file, my computer locks up and I cannot exit either a blank screen or my computer freezes and I cannot use any keyboard shortcuts.

A cause of this might be the fact that I have I have recently installed wine on my Ubuntu PC so I could play Starcraft again. The first time that I tried it I had too early of a version and it messed up my display settings.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening before?
