downgrading from ubuntu studio to ubuntu

So I upgraded to ubuntu studio a few months ago to do some audio production that i never ended up actually doing.

I'm just unsure of how the downgrade process works.
Do I just uncheck Studio in synaptic, or do I need to do a full reinstall Ubuntu?

will i lose my files in the process?

Your data files from the app are sitting in your home directory (or some user created directory), correct? If so, the uninstall process shouldn't touch your data files. I would backup those files to another dir just to be sure, because I'm not 100% sure (but would still bet the farm on it). AFAIK, these [x]ubuntu's are just the base ubuntu with extras loaded in ... and these extras are available via Synaptic.
