I have a similar setup, and compiz worked out of the box with me. What sort of problems have you been having?

I have an Intel graphics accelerator card as well. As far as I can tell, intel chips do not need drivers on linux machines. I've installed linux on computers with nvidia cards and it's easy to tell if drivers are installed or not.
