View Full Version : [ubuntu] [SOLVED] install ubuntu (any version) on an imac (aka powermac)

i have a spare computer (which happens to be a powermac G3, and i want to know if i can install Ubuntu into it, can anyone please tell me how?... (the worst part is, the CD ROM dos not work, and i happen to have a spare laptop CD drive, will it work? help!:(

Ubuntu no longer develops versions for your computer. If you want to install Linux on it, you'll have to choose another distribution. It's a shame, too. I discovered Ubuntu by installing it on an old G4 a few years ago.
Ubuntu is based on Debian, and I think those folks still make a version for your computer.

Thank you, and one more question, it does not have a cd rom, BUT, i have a spare laptop CD rom... wil it work?

If your Imac is one of the older ones with a tray loading CDRom, that CDRom was, indeed, a laptop type. So another should work, I would think.
