I have Gutsy 7.10. I'm having difficulty installing java. I tried following psychocat's instructions but it does not work. I get 'not found' when I try to install. I do have medibuntu installed, so it is not that. Does anyone know what I need to do?

Have you already enabled your software sources?

>System>Administration>Software Sources

You should have main, universe, restricted and multiverse enabled.

<edit> there is also this link from psychocats http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/sources which has directions for both adding a key to mediabuntu and updating the lists for gutsy

I hope this helps

Problem solved I think. Software sources was set to download from the Arctic server; I'm in Alberta and it had identified that as the nearest server. Except that it wasn't downloading anything - I think - maybe it's because of the ice melting (joke). I reset it to the main Canada server and now everything is cool, as far as I can see; at least I have java installed.
