I've had this problem for months and have NEVER gotten a solution. Please, it's driving me insane.
I have MPD installed, and rather like it. I decided to try out Exaile. Installed from the repos, got all the Gstreamers and whatnot (restricted extras as well), and fired it up. Nothing.
The song sits at 0:00 and does not play. Nothing I do will make the song play. I seem to remember it worked the one time I installed it with MPD killed, but then if I started MPD up and later tried Exaile the problem came back.
What the hell is going on?:mad:

Can you play the file from other players like Rythmbox? Did you install Exaile before you installed the codecs? If so you may want to try and reinstall it.

I can use Rhythmbox and MPD/Sonata just fine. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall Exaile, it never starts any songs. Is there a conflict maybe?

A few other items to check. Do the file names have any spaces in them? If so change it so that they do not. I also read that Exaile has problems with unicode tags. You may want to check any tags and if they have unicode, change them.

I actually have the same problem myself. Except, it does that for *all* my music programs, whether I use Amarok, Rhythmbox, or even the Totem Movie Player. It happens on and off too - like sometimes my music files will play, then other times they don't. Sometimes they stop working because of something like opening a Youtube video. Any thoughts?

I do recall seeing a number of posts that state you can't have multiple sound apps running at the same time. I believe it is a problem with the Pulse Audio. If it is only happening when you have other sound apps running that is probably what the problem is.
