okay, i've been using vista for a little while now and i've been trimming the fat off of it(lot of fat to trim, its been fun) and i have reduced the activity on my main disk to around 2% of what it was at idle pre modification.

i noticed the fated loud clicks from my harddrive which means the heads are parking. this laptop suffers from it under ubuntu and also vista it appears.

nice to know it is definitely not ubuntu's fault.

Not on my Laptop it doesn't.

Power on Hours: 847
Load Cycle Count: 10,224

Which is an average of 12 an hour.
So no problem with Vista whatsoever regarding Load Cycles. If the MTBF is 600,000 Load Cycles then I can get 50000 hours or 4166 days @ 12 hours a day, or > 11 years of life from the Hard Drive. :)
