driver for new dvd-rw

I just installed a new dvd-rw drive of unknown make. Is there a universal driver I can install to have the drive read both large and small dvds?

Hey, are you using Hardy or some other new linux distro? I think that if yes, then your drive should be automatically detected and you could burn/read any discs the hardware supports "out of the box". are you having some issues with it?

Yes I tried avidemux and the light on the drive never came on and in Kino it said drive not supported, I am running Hardy and the drive shows up on my drive list but whatever I try I can get the drive light on so it is never even seeing the MiniDisc I have in the tray.
