Hi All,
I have recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64 in place of Windows XP Pro. It is great for me, doing what I need it to. There are 2 items I must figure out/get working. I'll have 2 threads as they are different.
I use an iPod for listening to music on the go. I of coarse used iTunes in Windows, what do I use in Linux. It appears it will take more work in Linux, at least off the bat. I want to sync music with my PC and listen to it in the car or wherever I go. I don't use it for videos or RSS feeds, just music. I'd appreciate any help you can offer - guides?
Thanks,

Hello sirshaggy
On linux i think itunes equivalent to a reasonable extent is gtkpod(that you'll have to download using synaptic package manager from system->administration). I've 64 bit ubuntu hardy on wubi. I listened to songs on ipod using rythmbox that came default(right click your ipod icon on your desktop and there you'll have open with rythmbox player for that if doesn't open on its own.). When I wanted to access video clips, initially rythmbox refused to play them and as I'm a new bie myself couldn't figure out how to make other players work with ipod. So I just upgraded codecs for rythmbox when it said it'll need codecs to play video clips and after updating codecs it fantastically handles audio and video. I've not worked with "sync. with pc"(I think there's an option in gtkpod as synchronising) or addition of video clips to ipod on ubuntu so I've no idea about them. Hope it gives some idea atleast.

Thanks for the pointer. I installed gtkpod and it worked perfectly. I was able to sync with my iPod and add some music without any issues. It's nice to be away from Windows completely on this PC. I have been dual booting a couple of PC's for 4 years. Now only 1 PC has Windows left on it. I have been able to do everything on Ubuntu x64 that I did on Windows, but the FM Radio. That is just going to take me some time.....

You're welcome sirshaggy:). And if you ever need to run with .aac files you'll require gtkpod-aac.(It also has to be installed from synaptic, but before installing be sure that you uninstall gtkpod using synaptic itself) It's advanced than gtkpod. When you work out FM radio please make a post on this forum so that others might benefit from your tips.
I should add one more thing here. From synaptic search, I installed 'Screenlets', an icon comes on top right side and if you click it, screenlet manager opens, and inside you've got an icon for radio---if you choose this and click a command 'Launch/add' from right side menu, you get a screenlet of radio. Right click that-- you'll see list of radios for Europe and U.S. from 'radiolist'. For me Frequence 3, Techno 4ever, Energy 104,2, RMF FM(Europe list)played on. Others didn't play. If you get to work with other radios please post. I'm not sure this is a way to work with radio stations. Perhaps some other knowledgeable person might give you more idea.
