Since I still have 16 months left on my contract (AT&T, Nokia 6126 phone that I could not get to sync though I could see it and move files on and off of it), I'm not in the market to get a new smartphone or pocketpc phone. In fact, I don't really want a phone at all, especially one that runs Windows if I can help it. Does anyone still make a plain PDA anymore that can either run Linux (thus, I would think, making it a shoe-in to sync with Linux PIM apps) or can easily sync with Linux KDE-based PIM apps? Built-in WiFi capability would be nice but not critical. I don't mind syncing at home with bluetooth or by cable. I just want to be able to mass-input items at the desktop and also add and edit items ad-hoc while out and about.
I know there's the "find something on eBay" route, but I was wondering if there's anything anyone can recommend that's a current manufacture. I'm just not the tinker with it even though it's old type and I wouldn't want to be a burden constantly asking for help with getting things working on something old just because it'd be neat. By that I mean trying to shoehorn Linux onto an old HP PDA - unless someone were willing to turnkey it for me for a reasonable fee? :-). Hmm..I wonder if there are already shops out there that'd do that. I'll look into it. I really liked my Dell Axim and am looking forward to their E series netbook (Axim was the most bang for the buck at the time and could take both CF and SD), but Dell isn't in that business anymore and probably won't be for awhile, if ever.
Since I can't sync my 6126 and it's rather pitiful for PIM'ing anyway, I'd like to have something on which I can hold my 'life' as it were - calendar, to-do, notes...that kind of thing - while allowing me to sync it for backup.
Anyone?
I'm looking for something along the lines of the Axim and the 'classic' PDA form, not a Sharp mini-mini-laptop-like-thing. I think I'll hold off on the netbook (Dell's offering being spectacular as an exception) concept until they up the resolution to 1280x800 on the, preferably, 8.9inch type.
