Greetings,
I am doing this for a friend. He wants to connect a computer to his TV and mainly use it to stream audio (mp3) from his main computer which runs Vista to his "funroom". I got a computer and installed Ubuntu 7.04. We need it to do two things...first is to be able to read his Vista machine because that is where the mp3s are located, and it needs to be controllable from the vista machine at times.
I tested this setup at my house connecting between the Ubuntu box and an XP machine. I was easily able to access files on my XP machine. I installed NX Client and I was able to control the Ubuntu box from XP. Looks good, works good!
Get to his house and hook it up. I was able to install NX Client on Vista and control the Ubuntu box. One down, one to go. Here is where I run into problems. I can not find a way to share files. I am able to connect to the computer and see the drives. Once I try to access drive I am asked for a password. I tried the password of the linux box, of the vista machine, changing them, making them identical, etc. Both computers are listed on the same workgroup. I changed settings in Vista to allow file sharing without passwords.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? TO say the least it was frustrating. To have it work here and then take it to his house to hook up...and then fighting with it for about three hours was maddening.
Thanks for any support you may be able to provide.
