Hi, I just installed ubuntu as a dual boot on a seperate partition on my dell inspiron 530/531. Ubuntu worked like a charm for a while but then some of the graphics started slowing down so I was looking around and I found the screen & graphics settings. I chose a driver (it had, at the moment, read "non") but then I just kinda went off and did something else and then the next time I booted up my computer everything worked fine but then after a week (I was gone on vacation) I started up my computer and it said it was ins safe grahpics mode and I can't figure out how to leave it. please help. thanks for reading.

I also have to change the way the computer boots everytime I want to boot in either ubuntu or vista. ubutnu only works if I change one of the booting options to RAID and vista works with IDE. and I just found out that my graphics card is of the intel g33/g31 express chipset family. is there a driver I coud get or something?

more info: When I start up it tells me that my graphics card and display could not be detected correctly and I have to configure it myself. I found my monitor but I found a graphics card that was really close but still not the right one. I really am tired of having an 800 X 600 display on a huge monitor and not being able to view videos or play games or have a choppy screensaver 'cause that's what I spent money on my computer for and it's like brand new. I would really appreciate some help with this, thanks.

What kind of graphics card do you have? - Disregard... just found it in your post.

Have you tried installing new drivers for you card? It sounds like Ubuntu doesn't have a proper driver for your card.

Thanks. I tried looking for one but I didn't find one, however I ran ubuntu in recovery mode and selected reconfigur X server or something like that and it fixed the problem. so now there is no driver but ubuntu is working as good as ever = P

You system is probably using the base Intel drivers which may work just fine for that chipset. Unless you experience further problems, you may be able to get away with just running those.
