Hi,

I got a Mac Pro with 8 cores at work which I'm using for software development under Ubuntu 8.04 (64bit). Everything works fine so far but I'm a bit worried about the cooling/fan control and the information regards that is a bit wishy-washy at best.

How do I check the CPU temperature and fan frequency on a Mac Pro? Please note that the machine is running Linux exclusively and I don't have any comparison how the cooling is under OSX or Windows. I can't even tell if the fans are running at a high or low frequency due to the noise level in my office. The only thing I can tell is that there's warm air coming out of the box. :-)

Thanks!

Hi,

I am using Macbook Pro 4.1 (Penryn) 15 inches. Dualbooting with OS X and Ubuntu 8.04.

When running Ubuntu Temperature is slightly higher than OS X. My HDD temperature is marked at 47 C after 4 hrs of using Ubuntu. Location is Singapore(tropical) and room is not air conditioned. Its goes down to 44 C in air conditioned room.

This Macbook Pro Wiki (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro) tells you how to set up CPU and HDD temperature monitor. Scroll to section 13 "Temperature and Fan speed"

There are lots of people who are concerned about heat when running Ubuntu on Macbook Pro. I am one of them. So far I am living with 44 C when running ubuntu.

Please let me know if you managed to find other useful tricks or facts.

Regards,

Blunt
