How do I import my Apple Mail into Ubuntu? I have no preference for Evolution vs. Thunderbird but was unable to get either to import my messages.

You can do this by choosing "Archive mailbox..." from the "Mailbox" menu on the menubar. Then, move the .mbox file to your Ubuntu machine, and from within the mail client of your choice, look for something along the lines of "File->Import". If given a choice, choose "Import a single file".
Another possibility, just to let you know, is to use IMAP so that your mail syncs across all machines and accounts anyway. This method saves a lot of time if you have several devices, and it helps prevent data loss should your own machine die (since we can only assume your email provider has foolproof backup ;-)
Let us know how this goes for you!

I forgot to mention I no longer have access to a Mac. I just have a copy of my ~/Library/Mail folders on an external hard drive. Any other options?

Also, this program sounds useful, but I have not tested it myself. Has anyone used this?
