I have sound but it's on the MB and what I want to do is
put a pci card in (sound blaster live 5.1).
Now will Ubuntu find it and ask for the drivers by itself
or is there steps I have to do to get Ubuntu to find it
and install it?

I would just install your sound card, Then when you boot-up go into your BIOS and disable any mother-board sound settings to ensure your new card doesn't have any conflict.
Then boot into Ubuntu and your card should be detected.
You will then have to choose a media player to play your CD or music.

Enjoy:)
