MythTV without anything

I'm interested in using the MythTV interface for a game emulation PC (not a multimedia pc).. I was wondering how I could get MythTV without any of the extra software/libraries/etc and just add my own menus and such..

I know how to make themes.. But I don't want the bulk of all that multimedia software.

If you use Mythbuntu you can select options in the Mythbuntu control centre, that should let you cut out most things.
