I know exactly how this feels.

I occasionally like reinstalling Vista on my laptop (came with it), and every time I call to activate I have to go through the tech support who barely speak English (no offense), and it becomes a pain when there are around 9 sets of 6 digits -_-.

So first I have to tell the machine the digits to see if the machine can activate, when it doesn't work I have to do the same exact thing for the tech person. So troublesome :/

I love just being able to download any linux distro and begin using it without problems with "activation" let alone software and pirated software.

Crackers do really get business when you put in a strong defense such as WGA...

I find it amusing that Microsoft tries to dodge responibility for this problem.

Why does WGA exist? Microsoft after all promotes piracy, I find its existence ironical.

Yes, same problem here with XP. That's one reason I moved over to Ubuntu, after waiting on the phone ten minutes just to speak to someone who had poor English, in some call centre, somewhere else on the planet.

I see your use of archaic adjectives saddening. http://www.killingmadison.net/forum/images/smilies/emot-colbert.gif

And exactly how does Microsoft promote piracy?

I did not mean offense.

Why I said that?

Because of this:

"Our number one goal is that we want people to use our product. If they're going to pirate somebody, we want it to be us rather than somebody else," he said. "And that's because we understand that in the long run the fundamental asset is the install base of people who are using our products."

Just google MS supports piracy and you'll find even more instances.

You'll find my thoughts about this in my blog:

I honestly don't care. I just wanted to make sure you could back up your claim.

It seems that a lot of times, there are users, especially on this forum, that will jump in front of a speeding bus just to say that Ubuntu is superior to Windows, but they never give valid reasons.

I never blindly suggest Ubuntu is better. :)
Are you satisfied by my reasoning or do you think I'm trolling?

If I thought you were trolling, I would have reported your post.

I like Windows just as much as I do Linux, and sometimes I get a little defensive, that's all. :)

I never bash Windows. I try my best not to. Windows is a pretty good OS in its own domain, so is Mac OSX or Linux :).
But I do not like Microsoft. Plenty of reasons, lets not get into that. :)

Right. Otherwise this'll turn into one of those other thousand or so threads. ;)

I do not agree with piracy, but I do not agree with WGA or any type of product activation either.

Microsoft became ubiquitous because they used to turn a blind eye to piracy. They then became the standard to which all software and operating systems are judged. By knowing this they realised it would benefit them in the long run.

If Microsoft had a successful anti-piracy mechanism in place years ago, do you think they would have become the company we see today?

Microsoft is doing what any addict does.

Apple comes along and is doing very well recently
Linux is also catching up FAST, and doing very well
Vista is looked down upon (I dunno why, I like it)
Bill left

Microsoft is beginning to have withdrawal symptoms :lolflag:
