kmail won't send emails

I installed ubuntu on my new computer (after many years of gentoo).
I am experiencing exactly the same problem as

The solution posted in the last message would work, but it is quite annoying. I never experienced this problem in gentoo. Does anyone know why it has never been fixed?

Its probably not fixed...i have the same problem under hardy and the send via method doesn't work...i will do some more research and see what i will come up with
