Mac Pro fan control?

Hello everyone.

I just installed Kubuntu 8.04 on my mac pro and I'm wondering how well it handles adjusting fans in response to core temperature. I run a lot of numerical simulations and I am currently running an ocean current model which maxes out all eight processors for four hours straight when I fire it up on the OS X side.

I would really appreciate any info or observations anyone has to share. Is there anything I should know before I light my machine up like a Christmas tree?

as far as I know, there is not good temperature control support on the Mac Pro, that is not to say that it won't work, but no direct acces to control the fan spped or anything that I know of. The machine should shut itself down before it gets to a point where there is a problem.
