Hey. I want to get a mic for my games, and I was wondering if they worked on linux. I want to use it on all steam games (run through cedega), UT2004, and I think Quake 4 has support for it. Can this be done, and is it easy to do?

Also, is there a certain brand that works better/has better support with linux?

Thanks. :D

I got a mic from ebay for £2, works fine for tuning my guitar with. Never used it in online games but I presume if it works for one thing it will be fine for another. Check in your volume settings for "Mic Boost" which boosts the signal 20db. If its not there it might be a tad too quiet. Probably your best best for online gaming is one of those fancy headsets.

Of all the problems I've had with games in Linux, getting the mic to work is not one of them. It works fine in UT2k4 in Linux, and I didn't have to do anything special to get it working.

And it does not matter what brand you have. A microphone is an analog device; it doesn't give a **** what operating system you have.

K. I got the Microphone working, I recorded my voice in Sound Recorder and I played it back. However, In games through Cedega like Half Life It doesnt appear to be working. Is there a way to get this working?

When I hit the "Test Audio" Button and talk, the little audio meter thing doesnt go up. Also, when I hit the talk key the audio icon doesnt appear.

Hmm, I don't know. Do you have any games with Linux clients to test it with? I havn't been able to get games like Half-Life working in Wine, but in UT2k4 which I run natively, the microphone functions properly like in Windows with no extra config needed.
