I heard that latency is better on Linux than on Windows... Also, will it be better by a lot?

Well Linux has a lot more sophisticated TCP stack than Windows .. but because of punkbuster you wont get to see those improvements in latency because PB doesn't run in WINE.

But the guy here says it runs on PB servers... http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3438

I don't know about battlefeild, but when I play HL2 based games on ubuntu using wine, my latency is always much lower than it was on windows. I don't think it yeilds any measurable result in game play but it is definately better latency. a few ms will generally go unnoticed. If you have a high speed connection and are joining servers that are relatively close you will generally have 20-30ms ping on windows, I get 5-10ms on linux, 10-20 ms will not be noticable by any human.
